Vacuum That Dirt Away

Vacuuming often is one of the best ways to keep your carpet looking beautiful and feeling luxurious. It will help to eliminate odor caused by bacteria from crumbs, dirt and soil. It will also help to prevent matting caused by a build-up of grime. Vacuum heavily used areas daily. Vacuum less frequented areas on a weekly basis.

Use a vacuum with excellent suction and a beater bar or rotating brush. Adjust the vacuum to the height of your carpet, and do three passes for light traffic and up to seven passes for heavy traffic areas. Do not use attachments with teeth or ridges on a loop pile carpet.

"Spring Cleaning"

Just like the rest of the house your carpet will need some "spring cleaning." Using hot water extraction every one and a half to two years will keep your carpet looking beautiful. Use a trained carpet care professional as required by your warranty. Retain all receipts of your annual carpet care as proof of service, should a claim arise.

Relax

Your carpet will need a little rest and relaxation from time to time. Heavy objects cause indentations in your carpet. Shifting these heavy objects periodically will let the carpet rest and spring back to life.

Shampoo to Renew

Sometimes, you will need a little heavy cleaning to bring your carpet back to its original beauty. It may be time for a shampoo. Remember, some commercial products may cause damage to your carpet and invalidate your warranty. Before self-cleaning with a commercial product such as a dry cleaner, spray-on foam or wet shampoo check with your Downs® Decade retailer. For proper cleaning and great results, use a professional carpet cleaner. Ask your Downs® Decade retailer for a recommendation.
